Sunny October Day

I love October! Here in the Southern United States, October means bright sunny skies and game day football Saturdays. Last week, I was taking out the trash after another great football victory party, and I was taken aback by the bright blazing sun behind the row of trees in the back yard. The neigborhood was completely quiet except for the sound of singing mockingbirds around me. A small group of morning doves waddled around the bird feeder. The sun was warm but the breeze was a little cool. The first feeling of fall was in the air.

That sunny day inspired me to create this simple card. I call it “simple” because I only used two new Poppystamps dies from the new release, Viva Tree and Peaceful Bird. I wanted a flat, bright image in honor of one of my favorite wildlife artists, Charlie Harper. Harper used geometric shapes and vivid colors in a “minimal realist” style. Today his work can be found in calendars, prints, and posters around the world. His work always reminds me that even though a design can be “simple”, it can still be beautiful and detailed, and Poppystamps can make that craftsmanship easy!

I hope you enjoy my Harper-inspired design. You can find a variation of Sunny October Day and other cards in my own minimal realist style on my blog at Crimson Owl Creations. Enjoy your last sunny days in October and cheer on your own home team!

Live your life in color!
