A Long Little Dog
by Jennifer Harte

Hello Friends! Today is full of firsts—my first card for Poppystamps, my first blog post, and my very first card featuring a dog! The new Dog Days of Summer release has three darling Dachshund dog dies and five fun and playful sentiments. I love cards with dimension, and Poppystamps dies are perfect for adding layers.

The centerpiece of my card is the new Long Dachshund. It’s super easy to assemble. You can use colored cardstock or plain white with ink blending. I used a mix of brown shades for the pup and for her cozy sweater, I used the purple cardstock from the Lagoon 6×6 pack from Memory Box. It was my first time using this cardstock, and I was impressed with the thickness and quality.

For my background, I blended rich shades of purple on white cardstock topped off with the Penelope Pinpoint Frame die for some texture.  The sentiment— “been too long”—was perfect for this card. Originally, I tried using purple for the sentiment, but it didn’t stand out, so I switched to black. I stacked three die-cut layers together for dimension with adhesive paper. Very clean and easy compared to gluing them. Instead of using the banner die from the Sentimental Banners set, I stamped the sentiment directly onto the sweater. I popped up the dog with some foam squares to make her stand out a bit more.

For my final touch, I added tiny hearts from the Nordic Hearts Pattern Rings. I love working with purples, but this design could be recreated in any colors you love.

I’ll send this card to a college friend that I haven’t seen in ages, and I hope it brings a smile to her face.

Thanks for stopping by! I had so much fun making my first card for Poppystamps, and I hope it inspires you to check out the new release and share some handmade happiness of your own!
