Thinking Outside the Die: Halloween Cardmaking Tips
by Jennifer Harte

Hello Friends! Today, I’m excited to share a few tips for getting even more out of your craft supplies, along with an adorable Halloween card featuring the new Nordic Waving Fox.

For my background, I ink blended pink and orange Distress Oxide inks and die cut the panel with the largest Scalloped Pinpoint Frame. I’m saving the scalloped border for another card, so for this one, I only used the rectangular piece with the stitching.

The Nordic Waving Fox die set has a cat tail included so I decided to to turn my fox into a sweet little black cat for my Halloween card. I die cut her with black cardstock and created her outfit with black and green glitter cardstock. I also used the green glitter cardstock for her eyes, nose and ears which I adhered to the corresponding backer pieces.

For the Country Pickup I used a combination of pink and black glitter cardstock along with some orange foil cardstock from my stash. A little sparkle makes every Halloween card more fun!

Time for another tip! My little cat needed a hat, of course. While I was making a card with the new Winter Wrap Penguin, I noticed that the Santa hat looked quite a bit like a witch hat—more so than some of the other Poppystamps Santa hats. You may have a witch hat in your stash you can use, but if not, take a look at your other dies and see what you can repurpose.

For the hat trim, I used the curvy die that was intended for her arms and dress. I simply trimmed it to fit the hat. It’s amazing what you can create when you look at your dies a little differently.

My last trick involved the sentiment. Poppystamps doesn’t currently have a “Boo” sentiment, but as I was sorting through my dies, I had the idea to modify the “Been Too Long” sentiment from the Dog Days of Summer release. With a little creativity, I was able to turn it into the perfect greeting for my Halloween card, and it fit perfectly on the Country Pickup.

I hope my card inspires you to look at your supplies in a different way and have fun mixing and matching and repurposing your dies. Sometimes the perfect piece is already hiding in your stash—you just have to see it differently!

Thanks for stopping by! It’s the perfect time of year to share some handmade happiness of your own!
