Penguins in the Snow
By Carol McFarland

Hello there! I’ve created a Christmas card with our new 2796 Winter Wrap Penguin dies, the 2806 Merry Christmas Fluffy Script dies, and the 2757 Diamond Oval Pinpoint Background die. These dies are so easy to layer and they fit together perfectly. They are like putting together a really simple puzzle, but they are also really cute!

I made an A2 card base with the fold on top, but cut it down to be less than 4 1/4″ tall so that my penguins could be “off the edge” and the center of attention. The Diamond Oval Pinpoint Background die was cut to fit the front of the card. It reminds me of snow granules and patterns. I left the scarves free to fly in the wind that accompanies a snowy day. It gives movement to the card.

Here is a closer look at the pieces and layers of the penguin dies set. The beak is a piece that adheres to the whole back of the head. The feet are attached to a base that lines up with the bottom of the body. Poppystamps has clever ways to layer the pieces of the animals (and all the objects they create) and I find it so intuitive. The eyes are an impression in the die that cuts the beak, and I took a black marker to color the eyes before I adhered that piece to the back of the face.

Here is a really close look at the layers of the penguin. I also love the detail lines in the scarf and beak. Aren’t the scarves so cute? They look soft and fluffy.

The sentiment is matted and the letters are “puffy” which gives them dimension. The star over the letter “i” gives the Christmas feel to the whole card. The “Merry Christmas” can be used without the mat, but here it adds more color to my card and coordinates with the hat and scarf colors.
I hope you enjoyed this little how-to description of my card today and that you will be creating your own Poppystamps Christmas cards this year!
