A Fall Joyride

Hello friends! I’m here with a card for fall, and it also fits our August Poppy Challenge Let’s Go! Travel! Many parts of the United States have trees that change colors in the fall. Those of us who don’t see fall foliage where we live either drive or fly to places like the mountains or forests that have this going on. This little cat has just gone to see some fall colors and visited a pumpkin patch with its pumpkin spice drink in hand! Let’s take a closer look.
Take a look at these adorable dies from Poppystamps. I used 2697 Joyride Car, 2786 Nordic Waving Fox/Cat, 2787 Pumpkin Patch, 2794 Trimmed Trees and 2801 Coffee Penguin die sets. I fell in love with this car as soon as it came out and had to have it. The car is orange (for fall) and the windshield is made with a vellum scrap I had, although you could use acetate.
This is a closer look at the front of the car. I used silver card stock to get a shiny chrome look. I love the mirrors and the rings around the lights in silver too. There are layered pieces such as the lights behind the car’s front end and the grill itself is three layers. The car die makes the car’s hood details which are spot on to the real thing. I can’t wait to make more of these cars! It is so easy to piece together. You could whip up a bunch of these for a child’s birthday party to put on the invitation or next to their places at the table.
The cat’s head is layered so that you don’t have to handle the tiny eyes and nose, or the inside of the ears. There is the base layer, the eyes layer, the ears layer and the forehead layer and they stack perfectly. Conveniently, the two arms are one piece and adhered behind the cat’s body for easy placement. I love the details that the die leaves on the face. The smile is so cute, as are the whiskers!
I drew the road on a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of printer paper with a pencil and a ruler to get the perspective needed for the road coming from far away to the front of the scene. I cut out the road piece and traced it onto the gray card stock for my road. I put a rectangle of green card stock on top of my card base, then added the road on top.
In case you noticed the little takeout cup, it comes in one piece. I die cut it once out of white card stock, then again out of off white, then a tan color. I cut the top only off the white one to make the lid, then cut a strip of the tan to make the cardboard sleeve that allows you to hold the hot cup. I used a handheld punch to make a pumpkin and the short stem is cut from one of the pumpkin stem dies. Pretty tiny to handle but my reverse tweezers did the trick! The cup is cute enough if you just die cut it out of white card stock, but I decided to try for a fall look.
The pumpkins are adorable with their detailed lines and there are five different shapes and sizes of pumpkins on one die. The stems are a separated die and it cuts four different shaped stems at a time. I die cut pumpkins out of four different colors of card stock and only used four of them, one of each color.
As you can see, the tree dies cut these thin branches perfectly every time. There are four different tree dies in the set so you can get perspective depending on where you place them on the card. I put the taller ones up front and the smaller ones toward the top of the card which is the back of my scene.
