Frog Says Hooray!
by Rachel Duong

Hi everyone! It’s Rachel here with two adorable Poppystamps cards using the “Nordic Sitting Frog” and the “Lily Pad Frog” dies… just released. I can’t tell you how much I love these creatures!

This card was so much fun to make. I decided I wanted my frog to be a Red eyed tree frog! And I envisioned him wearing a teal sweater to bring out his red outlined eyes! To create this card I cut out the “Nordic Sitting Frog” from watercolor paper and painted the pieces with distress inks before assembling. (I looked up images of this type of frog to try to make it look somewhat realistic.) I cut out the sweater using the Poppystamps 8.5″ x 11″ Pool Party and Deep Turquoise cardstock.

Next I placed the “Fanciful Flowers Stencil Set” over creme cardstock. I brushed on color as each panel was carefully placed over the paper in the same position. I used uneven amounts of pressure to give the varying pale and bold color of the flowers. I sized it down to 4.25″ x 5.5″. Next I adhered the frog onto the cardfront. I tore a strip of creme and adhered it to the left side. Then I wrapped light teal string around the torn edge, and tied a bow in the upper third of the cardfront. I roughed up the edges to give it character and texture. I stamped the Hooray sentiment from the “Hooray” clear stamp set in lime green. To create depth, I die cut 3 layers including the stamped one and glued them together.

I stamped the celebrate sentiment in teal and die cut it out using the “Word Balloons” longest die. Finally I glued the cardfront onto a lime green cardbase. Hop Hop Hooray!!!
I loved this frog so much I had to make a second card! Previously stenciling the color onto the first card, I brushed it a second time on another piece of creme cardstock. This is called the “second generation” technique. I had a second background to work with! I die cut it out using the outline die of the Poppystamps “Nordic Floral Burst Background”. (The complete die is gorgeous and I will use it in a card soon.) I adhered the background to a kraft cardbase. Next I worked with the “Nordic Sitting Frog” and the “Lily Pad Frog” dies. This time I used the 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock in Key Lime and Leaf Sprout. I used white for the sweater and lightly brushed yellow distress ink over the underpiece. I love the crisp white cardigan! Before gluing it all together I colored the eyes with a black Sharpie pen on the part that shows through the front of the frog.
Then I die cut the “Nordic Heart” with heavy vellum. I lightly brushed it with yellow and tan to give it a beige tone. I stamped “Hooray” using a combination of two green distress inks and moved the pad over the stamp in a horizontal swipe to achieve the line effect. I die cut it out with the enclosed die in the package. I wrapped and tied burlap string around the card and assembled and glued the pieces down, popping up the frogs with foam dimensionals. I stamped the confetti sentiment in gray ink. To complete the card I stamped the confetti using matching colors already used in the background. Super awesome!

Isn’t the little frog at the bottom too cute?! I can’t wait to share more of them in my upcoming posts. Stay tuned!

Thanks for “hopping” by. Here’s “hopping” you get a chance to look at the Poppystamp’s latest release. It is a must see! Before I “hop” along, have an un”frog”etable day!
