A Flock of Us!
by Rachel Duong

Hi Friends! It’s Rachel here to share an Autumn sky full of colorful birds in motion. I used the Poppystamps “Flock of Birds” and the “Whittle Field and Trees” dies to create this card.

Every night in my town 10 to 15 thousand crows migrate together to our college campus to spend the night in safety–a spectacular phenomenon! So of course when I saw these dies,  I immediately thought to make a card to reflect this fascinating ocurrence.

I began by die cutting many feathered friends using ink blended paper. I made piles for like pieces because there were so many. This die produces 7 birds, super awesome!

Next I glued pieces I thought went well together. There are two pieces for each bird and there are a total of seven birds!

I ink blended a gradient light blue sky with distress ink on a white A2 card front. Then I ink blended a strip of white paper in brown for the trees in the Poppystamps “Whittle Field and Trees”. The fields, I watercolored in shades of green, yellow, and brown.

The sentiment “For You Poe Script” came out gorgeous in a teal pearl paper. I love it because it is just the right amount of shine. The curvy strip sentiment is stamped in brown from the Poppystamps “Christmas Banners” stamp and die set.

I arranged my birds to look as natural as possible. As I glued pieces down, I overlapped a few pieces to give it dimension. After assembled, I added burlap string and Open Studio “Fairy Drops”  for texture  and balance to complete the card. The Fairy drops come in three sizes. These will go with any card because they are clear, yay!

It was so relaxing making this card. I thoroughly enjoyed gluing the birds together. I know they will be a favorite and well loved on many cards. Have a fun day and I hope you get a few hours of crafty goodness in. Please let me know if you have any questions. I love to chat about Poppystamps card making!

  1. Hi Rachel, I love this ‘scene’ card, the scene is fabulous and the die-cut birdies are ‘darling’, as are the colours you have used. I love it !!

  2. Hey, Rachel. I placed a large order of the Nordic line and others that went with it. I’m having a horrible time trying to make the pieces fit because a LOT of them are coming on one die. Right now I’m trying to work with the Flock of Birds and I’m so frustrated. Is there a way to make it easier to take the die and number the pieces with a small marker or would you please show which pieces go together? Frustrated in Florida. Help, please! Thank you.
