Elegant Koi

Hi! Nancy here, and I’m bringing you a card made with one of my favorites, Elegant Koi. Love the movement of this sweet little guy, and I used a few techniques to make him that I’d love to share with you.

1st off, the background

I chose my colors based on water, such as a fish would be swimming in. Distress Oxide works best for this technique.

I selected a stencil, this one is Memory Box’s Garden Peony Blossoms.

Then comes the fun part…

Spritz the back of the stencil with water, and carefully place it on the inked panel.

Place a paper towel over the stencil, and weigh it down with a book or in this case I used an acrylic block.

Wait awhile for the water to soak into the ink. I waited 5 minutes.

When you remove the stencil the image is set into your panel! Isn’t that wild? Thanks to Marcia Hill, who taught me this fun technique!

I also used a stencil to create the glittery scales for my Elegant Koi. First die cut with vellum, then spread with Nuvo Glimmer Paste (Moonstone colored with re-inker). I wanted a bit of orange on my yellow koi, so I added a few spots of watercolor.

Brush Hello was cut 3 times with 3 shades of  blue shimmer paper.
