Something Sweet – A Celebration Card By Jyoti Adhikari

Hello, crafty friends! Today, I’m excited to share a card I created for this month’s Poppystamps Challenge #125: “Something Sweet.” This theme immediately made me think of a delightful cake, and what better way to celebrate than with a congrats card featuring the Brilliant Birthday Cake Craft Die as the focal element? Keep reading to see how this card came together and join us in the challenge!
Creating the Cake Focal Point
I began by die-cutting the Brilliant Birthday Cake using pale pink and light teal cardstock for a soft, elegant look. To add a touch of luxury, I incorporated gold metallic cardstock for accents, making the details of the cake shine. Once all the pieces were assembled, my cake was ready to take center stage on the card.

Building the Background
For the background, I chose a floral pattern paper and trimmed it down to be ⅛ inch smaller on all sides than my A2 card base. This created a subtle border and framed the design beautifully. Next, I added a pink stripe foiled pattern paper strip with slanted edges, adhering it along the left side of the card about ¼ inch from the edge. To balance the composition, I cut a banner shape from a peach pattern paper and placed it on the right side, extending from the top. These patterned papers come from the Birthday Fun 6×6 paper pack, which is filled with fun, vibrant prints perfect for celebratory cards.

Assembling the Layout
With the background in place, I cut a white rectangle to serve as a base for my cake. To create dimension, I adhered the rectangle with foam tape and then attached the cake directly onto it using liquid glue. Instead of centering the cake, I positioned it toward the right side of the rectangle, leaving space for the sentiment on the left.
Adding a Unique Sentiment Placement
For the sentiment, I used the Congrats Streamer Script Die, cutting two layers for extra thickness and dimension. Instead of placing it in a traditional horizontal position, I decided to add a fun twist by placing it sideways on the white rectangle. I love experimenting with word die-cuts to create unique layouts, and this arrangement added a playful element to the design.
Embellishing with Floral Elements
To complete the card, I added floral embellishments using the Fabulous Floral Craft Die and Handpicked Bouquet Craft Die. I placed a single flower at the top of the white rectangle and arranged a small cluster of flowers and leaves in the bottom left corner to balance the composition. To finish off the floral elements, I adhered gold pearls to the centers of the flowers, adding just the right amount of sparkle.
This card was such a joy to create! The combination of the Brilliant Birthday Cake, soft pastel colors, floral accents, and gold details made it feel both elegant and festive. I hope this inspires you to create something sweet for the Poppystamps Challenge this month. I’d love to see your take on the theme, so don’t forget to share your projects!
Happy crafting!
