A Floral Birthday
by Rachel Duong

Hi there! The sun is shining and it’s Rachel here to share a sunny, floral, happy birthday! I love the bright citrus background and the nod to van Gogh colors (for the flowers). I used the Poppystamps “Nordic Flower Pots and Stems” and the “Nordic Flower Heads” dies. I must say they are fabulous and a joy to create with.

I began with a lime background from the Memory Box “Lush Green Collection” paper pad. I die cut the Poppystamps “Circling Frame” background die in yellow from the Memory Box “Sunny Orange” paper pad. I adhered these pieces together.

Next I chose orange, yellow and blue glitter paper for the flower heads. I played around with layering the pieces. I also watercolored some layers in orange, red and crimson. I die cut the stems in yellow and used a bright green to paint the leaves. For the pots I used orange cardstock as a base. I painted over them many times with browns, rusts, teal and white. I was going for a weathered look.

After adhering the individual pieces together, I used burlap twine to wrap around the pots. A bow in the middle, a knot on the right and a double wrap on the left pot adds a little texture.

These are the Poppystamps supplies I used. The flower heads can be layered in so many ways, it is fun to come up with variations!

I glued the middle flower and stem to the cardfront first. Next I popped up the pot with foam squares. I repeated this with the other two pots slightly overlapping the one on the right.

The sentiment is from the Open Studio “Greeting Tabs”. These are extra thick, gold foiled, black tabs. Before gluing it down, I placed two leaves under the sentiment and then a small blossom is glued on the empty space of the sentiment. Finally, Open Studio “Fairy Jewels” in coordinating colors  complete the card!

This palette of bright, bold colors is summer at it’s finest! A card like this makes me so happy. It is full of energy and excitement. When you get the chance, take a look at these awesome Poppystamps dies. The links are below. Have a gorgeous day!
