Mason Jar Flowers
by Jeanne Jachna

I hope you’re having a great day!   I’m sharing a card I made for the Poppystamps monthly challenge!  You can always find the challenge by clicking the “challenge” tab at the top of the blog or by clicking on our challenge badge in the right margin.  We begin a new challenge with a different theme on the first day of the month.  You get until the end of the month to join us – almost the entire month so you have lots of time to play along!

Our theme this month is “Beyond Borders”.  We want you to put a border on your project!  You can use stamps, lace or trim.. or our favorite.. a die!   Just make sure you use at least one Poppystamps image (stamp or die) on your project!

Here’s what I made!  I created a color block background of Zig Zag Stripes in ombre shades yellow for my colorful peony bouquet.

I have several sheets heavy duty clear plastic on my desk that I use to help me with layouts.  I cut them from recycled pieces like binder dividers, or product packaging.  The pieces are cut to the size of my typical card base – A2 (4.25 x 5.5″).    I arranged my floral bouquet on the plastic so I can easily lay it over different color panels to decide what color I like best before I commit and adhere all the pieces.

I like the yellow background so now I can trim it to size.  I cut the Zig Zag stripes from three different shades of yellow.   To secure the strips you can adhere them directly to your card base, but I prefer to tape them together on their reverse side and then trim them down.

Details make your project come to life!  I added a bitty twine bow around the top of the jar and inked some shading around the bottom and edges.

The Peonies were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copic Markers.  I added some accents with a white gel pen for detail.

I sure hope you’ll join us for this month’s challenge.   I love seeing what you make!
