Snowy Grand Pine

Hi everyone!  I'm one of those weird people that love to make Christmas cards in the heat of summer (it's still very hot here in Virginia).  So today I made a card using the large Grand Pine die over a watercolored snowy sky scene.  Using the negative space as your design is probably one of my favorite things to do.  

I started by die cutting a panel with the Grand Pine die.  Then I used regular pan watercolors and powdered watercolors to paint the background.  For this type of project, I like to die cut my design first and then color to make sure the colors are in the right spot.  The snow spots were made using white mist paint that I tap onto the card, not mist.  The watercolor paper tends to curl up when it dries, so I dry it a bit with my heat gun and then place it under a large acrylic block to flatten out.  

Before I glued the panel to the card base, I ground the tree by cutting off the bottom part of the panel.  This also gives you a nice blank space to stamp a sentiment!  I glued the panel onto the card base wit spray adhesive.  This works the best when you have a really intricate die cut like this one.  The last thing I added was a gold star.  I found just the right size in the Stitched Star Cutout set.
