Take a look at our new release, and you will find beautiful Art Deco frames and shapes. Art Deco is decorative style that first came into vogue right before before WWI. One of its earliest influences came from the luxurious and exotic patterns of ancient Egypt. Over the years, Art Deco evolved into many forms, sometimes contrasting, sometimes harmonious. My favorite, however, is Art Deco at its earliest, reflecting high style and the finest materials.

I began my Art Deco Holiday card by first creating a rich, faux marble background out of alcohol inks and YUPO paper. I used shades of green and dripped and blended the wet inks until they looked like my artsy version of Connemara marble, known for its "40 shades of green." Then I cut the Deco Victor Square, and the Stitchwork Square Frame out of shiny gold foil paper.

Once my card base was dry and cut, I lined up the adorable and versatile Mixed Open Tab right in the center of my "marble" panel, and held it in place with a little blue tape before sending it through the die cutting machine. These little tabs cut on 3 sides, and score on the fourth, allowing you to create little windows and doors that open to reveal a surprise inside. My surprise was the gold embossed Art Deco Celebrate Christmas stamped sentiment. In order for the door to open and reveal the JOY, I needed to trim the inside lines of the center square. Before I cut the center square, I carefully measured the Mixed Open Tab to fit right right in the middle, but it still shifted to the left. A good tip to remember is just how slippery and slide YUPO paper can be when you put it through your die cutter. I finished the design with red foil Poinsettia Minis, and pearl centers.

The Mixed Open Tabs come in 3 different shapes, and they work so well with all of the new shapes and frames in the Art Deco designs. Today's Mixed Open tabs reveal a little surprise just for you! You can win these versatile little tabs just by leaving a comment at the end of this post! Winners will be announced October 24th!
