Blog Blitz: Double Cut Puffy Snowtree

Hi folks!  I'm here with another new release Blog Blitz card!  I'm one of those funny people that love to make Christmas cards all year long.  So I was so happy to play with the new release dies!  Today, I have a card that used a number of die cutting techniques including partial cutting, double cutting, and inlaid die cuts.  

When I was looking through my new release dies last week, I noticed that the We Wish You a Merry Christmas die fit nicely over the Puffy Snowtree die except for the star.  So my double cut is also a partial cut.  First I die cut the Puffy Snowtree on white cardstock.  Then I partial cut just the words of the We Wish You a Merry Christmas die by keeping the star part of the die off of the cutting plates.  I used a pen to mark where the star was to help me place the plates correctly.  

For the background, I used the Memory Box Tiny Dots stencil and Distress Inks.   I started by blending 3 types of Distress Ink onto a piece of watercolor paper.   Then I laid the stencil over the panel and gently wiped a baby wipe over the stencil removing the ink.  The last step was to blend white pigment ink over the stencil.  

I die cut the stenciled background with the Puffy Snowtree and then I inlaid the die cut into it.  To keep the inlaid die cut in place, I use plain invisible tape.

To put the card together, I attached the panel over the card base with foam tape (I glued some silver glitter paper to the card base).  And then I added the star with foam tape and inlaid the red ornament (with more foam tape) for a bit of color.  

I love how the red ornament just pops out!  If you substituted the stenciled background with a bit of patterned paper, I bet this card would be pretty easy to make in multiples (for those who are already thinking about Christmas cards;).

    PS – I haven’t done a partial die cut before and really appreciate the close-up pic you have shared. My cutting plates are well-loved like yours but I was wondering, do your plates have square or tapered ends? Mine are tapered and I wasn’t sure where to align the die => looks like I need to start testing it out NOW!!!

  64. A creative, inspiring, beautiful card! I love it when I can expand the use of my dies in ways that the dies are not necessarily intended for. The puffy snowtree has many creative possibilities. Now I know which background tree will fit the We wish you a merry christmas die. Both of those dies are going on my Christmas Card making list.
    Love your snowy background, I need that stencil, I have been searching for ways and stencils to make the perfect snowy background.
