Hello Sunshine
By Carol McFarland

Welcome back to the Poppystamps blog! Hello Sunshine is what many of us are saying now that spring is in full swing and summer is on its way. I am using a couple of new products today along with another plate die that I just love. I have always loved a white trellis with flowers woven through it or near it in pots. My card uses Lattice Plate die cut twice from white card stock. I cut the edges off the die cuts to get a little different look, like the lattice is freestanding in a garden. I glued the two die cuts together with liquid adhesive to create depth.

I like how the thick lattice I created has dimension even when looking at in straight forward. Once it was adhered to the card, I die cut the new Nordic Watering Can die parts from purple, aqua and teal card stocks. I added a little bit of distress ink with a tiny ink blending brush to add shadows here and there on the purple pieces.

As you can see, I die cut and assembled some of the new dainty Nordic Scatter Flowers to look like tulips. Lavender or purple tulips are among my favorites and I chose a pretty, bright green for their stems. I added a little more distress ink to the tulips because what makes the real ones unique are the different shades in each flower. I love all the patterns and detail in the watering can, some of which I think mimic real flower petals.

Here is a close up photo of the patterns and cut outs in the watering can. These dies cut so well with no need to change the usual die cutting sandwich in my machine to get this detail. You can see how pretty the designs and perforations are. The layering pieces are dimensional with the colors of the other layers showing through the cut out areas.

I bought my Whittle Sealife Sentiments stamp set a while ago for the beachy themed sayings but there are quite a few in this set that can be used for flowers and other occasions like the one I chose for this card. The sentiment was stamped first, then I used my paper cutter to cut a rectangle around it. I added a purple mat to make it stand out from the white lattice.

You will have to check out the new Nordic Garden die sets that my Nordic Watering Can and Nordic Scatter Flowers are a part of. This was an easy card to make, and imagine the different looks you can get just by changing the colors. I hope you are inspired to try out these stamps and dies because the possibilities are endless!
