Let’s Celebrate
by Allison Frazier

Hello, Poppystamps friends! These adorable pandas are here to wish all of our American friends a happy 4th of July! And for all of our other friends, this card would be perfect for any other happy occasion, such as a birthday or graduation. The main star of the show here is the Whittle Panda Pickup Kit. But, I did pull in several other products to complete my scene.

I knew that I would have plenty of red with the truck and plenty of white with the pandas, so to pull in the blue color, I used the Cortina Pinpoint Plate. I glued the resulting blue panel onto a white A2 card base. Next, I took the biggest die from the Double Scalloped Stitched Frames set and centered it on an A2 sized piece of white card stock. I put the resulting frames away for future use and used the negative piece to frame my scene.

I cut all the pieces for the truck from red and a few shades of gray card stock. I added shading to the truck with red ink and a little bit of shading to the middle of the tires with black ink. I assembled the truck with glue and then added some white gel pen highlights. I did get creative with the door handle by cutting a piece of gray card stock using the end of one of the bamboo branches. I colored the scored area of the door handle that the truck die created with a black marker and then adhered my “handle” – the black underneath gives the look of dimension. I added some thick foam tape on the back of the truck and adhered it to the card base. I stamped and die cut the sentiment using the Birthday Banners set and adhered the banner to the truck with glue.

For the pandas, I cut layers of black and white card stock and got busy fussy cutting and layering. I used my craft knife to cut things like the eyes from the black layers. In some cases, such as the head, I would layer white over black layers. In other cases, such as the feet on the little guy on top of the truck, I would layer black over white layers. For eyes, I wanted to make it easy and just use tiny round die cuts. I found what I needed with one of the large flowers from the Nordic Blooms set. That particular flower has holes around the edges, and the little white pieces that came out of those holes when I die cut it are now the eyeballs on the pandas! I just added a black center to the eyes with a marker. For the nose, I used a long-forgotten product from my stash – black Enamel Accents. This gives a shiny, dimensional nose to the pandas.

I put foam tape on the back of two of the pandas and put one on the roof and one inside the car. I glued the other one in the back of the truck. Having foam tape on the back of the truck enabled me to tuck these guys inside. I cut the balloons from the kit itself and put foam tape on the back of those, as well. I used some black embroidery floss for the balloon strings and glued those to the back of the balloons and the back of the pandas’ hands. The only thing left to do was to add some stars to the sky! I found those in the Whittle Rainbow Unicorn Kit.

I am really pleased with how this card turned out. Although I had the holiday in mind when I picked the colors, I think this would make a fun birthday card for a boy…or girl! I hope this card brings a smile to your face. Thanks for joining us today!
