Fall / Halloween Blog Blitz – Maple Trio
by Candice Crawford

Hi Everyone!

As the newest member of the Poppystamps Design Team, I am continuing the Fall /Halloween Blog Blitz showcasing a fall theme card using the new Maple Trio and Autumn Leaf die sets. When I think of the fall season, I often envision the trees turning colors and piles of leaves scattered throughout the yard. The inspiration for today’s card is my vision of a the beautiful fall leaves captured on a stunning wreath.

To make this card, I first die cut each of the leaf images from white card stock 5 times. This ensured I had enough leaves to build a full wreath.

Next, I took my Distress Inks in the colors Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Mowed Lawn, Fossilized Amber, Ground Expresso, Crushed Olive and Forest Moss and sponged on two different but coordinating inks to each leaf.  This allowed the leaves to have an ombre appearance and look more realistic. The color combinations I used were, Barn Door with Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber with Crushed Olive, and Forest Moss with Ground Espresso. I colored two of the leaves each in one solid color of Mowed Lawn and Ground Espresso.

I then die cut two circle frames from the Double Stitched Circle Frames dies using both the second and third largest circles from the stack. After my frames were cut out, I then began adhering the colored leaves to the second largest circle frame with some liquid glue.  I started with my largest Maple leaf image, then adhered the largest leaves from the Autumn Trio set and then moved to the next smaller leaves ensuring the leaves were layered on top of one another in various different directions. I continued this pattern until all of the die cut leaves were adhered.

Next, I took the negative circle piece from the third largest double stitched circle frame and inked it with tumbled glass distress ink. I then stamped the Happy Fall sentiment from in black ink and attached the wreath image and sentiment to a 4 x 5.25 inch piece of white card stock that was embossed with a woodgrain embossing folder. The sentiment was popped up using foam tape. I embellished the card with some gold enamel dots from my stash and attached the entire card front to a my 4.25 x 5.25 inch card base. I really like how this card came together and the fine embossed detail each of the leaf dies showcase.

  7. Love the card. It’s even faster if you ink or paint a page of autumn colors on card stock or watercolor paper in advance. Saves coloring each leaf unless you just want to do it that way.

  8. Lovely card!!! The Maple Trio is a great die set!!! It is probably not important to anyone but me (LOL), but I love this set because the leaves have stems. In so many leaf sets, the leaves don’t have stems and I really hate that for fall leaf cards. 🙂
