Challenge Me A Christmas Card – Candles
by Jeanne Jachna

I’m interrupting the blog blitz with a Christmas Card!  Poppystamps is sponsoring Michelle Lupton’s Christmas Card Challenge and I thought you’d want to know about it.   Don’t worry there is still a prize on this post!

Is it starting to feel like Christmas is just around the corner? In a panic and looking for ideas? Michelle Lupton from Handmade By Michelle blog is having a special event! Every day she has a different challenge – Michelle makes a card, and she asks one of her crafty friends to play along too. Some of the challenges are very unique and creative so you’ll want to check it out! I got an easy one! The challenge Michelle and I are both playing along with today is “CANDLES”!  The Christmas candles that stand out the most in my mind  are the pink and purple ones on an advent wreath.   Each candle represents one of the four weeks before Christmas!

I started by die cutting a large POINTED OVAL FRAME die cut. I traced the outline on a card base and inked up everything outside the oval with Tumbled Glass distress ink . I wanted to placed three FORMAL CANDLES inside the oval, but I wanted to make them GLOW!   To achieve this effect I die cut a small circle from card stock.  I used this as a mask to ink up the glow.  I used Mustard Seed for the circle shape and then added Squeezed Lemonade for a soft glow.  I was very careful to stay inside the pencil marked oval.

Next I added a slightly larger oval cut from gold and adhered it over the pencil drawn oval.   Next I adhered the candles and created a wreath from SMALL BLOOMING POINSETTIAS and WHISPY PINE NEEDLES.

The finishing touch is flower center gems and a simple sentiment created by die cutting the MERRY CHRISTMAS SCRIPT  from gold glitter and fold foil paper and adhering them slightly off set.

  1. Your card is gorgeous Jeanne! Excellent use of the small poinsettia, I have that! The glow you achieved around the candle flames makes the card come alive. Your card reminds me of the beautiful vintage Christmas Cards that I love to collect. I have never heard of pink and purple advent candles before, what do they represent? We always use white candles. Thank you for sharing this beautiful, inspiring Christmas card today.
