Christmas Lights

Hi!  Jeanne here today with a simple card featuring the Christmas Lights background. 

First I cut the die in black card stock so the lights would look like a silhouette.  Then I die cut the different sections of the die in different colors.  I had to run this through my die cut machine several times, but I sure used up lots of scraps of solid card stock I've been hanging on to!

The second step was reassembling the die with the pieces inserted.  I worked on the reverse side of the die and held all the pieces tightly in place with inexpensive tape.  Don't worry about the mess – no one will ever see it!   Earlier I tried adhering the empty frame to the card base without the inserts and it just wasnt stable enough.  The frame didn't hold its shape and I had some empty gaps peeking through.

I didn't want to cover up this pretty background when I was done so I stamped right on the die cut.  I used a stamp a ma jig to help me line it up perfecty.  I think stamping at an angle adds a fun, whimsical look to my card.

Background dies don't have to stay in the background.  This was a fun easy way to let this beauty take center stage, and the flat design makes this easy to pop in an envelope!   I hope you'll give it a try sometime!
